SCARBOROUGH SCHOOL
"The standard of education at Continuum School Scarborough is good and students make good educational, social and emotional progress, often from a very low baseline. The curriculum is good, and individualised to reflect the learning objectives in individual education plans and statements." OFSTED, 2008.
Opened in 2003, our 8–17 Independent Special School is set in a five storey building with ample teaching areas to accommodate up to 15 pupils. Young people have their own Common Room area and toilet facilities. Our comfortable and spacious environment provides the opportunity for individual or small group tuition, so helping the pupils in our care to rekindle the lost enthusiasm for education. We are registered as an exam centre with two examination boards.
Our town centre location enables access to a wide range of additional facilities, which include the swimming pool, golf centre, sports centre and local gym. We are also within easy reach of the library, museums and art gallery. Strong links have been developed with a local secondary school and we work closely with the Connexions service to provide careers education, advice and opportunities for work experience. Part–time college placements are also arranged for those students for who this is appropriate. These may be vocational courses or more leisure based activities. As a member of Scarborough Personal Advisers Forum, the school fosters and maintains close working relationships with a variety of community projects.
Young people may enter the school at any stage during the academic year. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum, which caters for children of all backgrounds and abilities, including those with special educational needs. In addition to the requirements of the National Curriculum, vocational training and physical activity are offered. In line with the school’s ethos of respect and responsibility, behavioural stability is also strongly encouraged.
