WARRINGTON SCHOOL

The Warrington school is an Independent Special School for 24 pupils of mixed gender from 11–16 years. The school welcomes all ethnic groups from various socio–economic backgrounds and pupils of all abilities. The majority of the students admitted to the school will have statement of special educational needs or BESD difficulties. Children are not limited to times of admission and may enter the school at any stage during the academic year.

It is expected that all our pupils attend the school because education has failed them in mainstream and other specialist provisions and most will be at risk of or have been permanently excluded. A proportion of pupils will be Looked After Children.

In addition to the requirements of the National Curriculum, vocational training and physical activity are offered. In line with the school’s ethos of respect and responsibility, behavioural stability is also strongly encouraged. All young people are taught the National Curriculum and children 14 – 16 also have the option of studying for a vocational qualification. Some children can work quickly towards reintegration into mainstream education; the majority, however, will take a long time to acquire the confidence and the skills to achieve this

The school is a new building for the Continuum Care and Education Group. The building has been re–designed and re–furbished to provide a specialist education and vocational training centre. On the ground floor there is a specialist ICT suite, therapeutic room, and vocational training for horticulture & land based studies, CDT, Hair, health & beauty and catering & hospitality. On the first floor there are three modern classrooms for the delivery of all academic subjects. The pupils also have their own common room.

Teaching staff employed by Continuum Independent Schools will provide education at the school and as such the school is fully staffed and able to take up to 24 young people. The Head Teacher is an NPQH graduate.
